Description
Banksia Nuts
Native to Australia, the banksia nut is sought after for turning pencils and small objects.
Banksia nuts grow in Australia, often producing cones large enough to turn. These are called 'Banksia Nuts' and are named after Joseph Banks (1743-1820), who sailed with Captain Cook on the 'Endeavor' in 1768.
The nuts usually grow on undergrowth in Jarra forests and can take several years to mature. Although they are quite easy to turn, they are a little dusty. When you turn these pods, instead of producing chips, you will get more dust, but the result is beautiful.
