Description

Bird's Eye Maple Planks - 23 3/4" long

Birdseye maple is not a distint species from maple. It acquires this name due to the patterns that are occasionally found in the wood of sugar maples (Acer saccharum). Its name comes from the fact that these small patterns resemble the eyes of birds. They are thought to be caused by unfavorable conditions for the tree's growth (lack of light) which would try to thwart these conditions by producing more new buds. However, these do not develop and remain as small knots.

Like traditional maple, it can be used for musical instruments, turning, as a veneer or any other woodworking project
