Protect all the wood in your home - from top to bottom. Circa 1850 paste varnish creates a rich patina and provides that real hand finish which will protect your wood against heat, water and alcohol. The gel formula dries quickly and won't leave behind any dust or brush marks. The varnish is easy to apply and gives the wood the look and feel of a multi-coat finish. Ideal for woodwork, even in high-traffic areas, or on frequently used furniture such as desks, entryway benches, dining tables, kitchen counters, etc.
Antique paste varnish
- A modified polyurethane varnish jelly.
- It creates a rich patina and provides that true hand finish which will protect the wood against heat, water and alcohol.

1. Surface preparation
- Clean and degrease the furniture to remove dirt, grease and dust.
- Lightly sand the furniture to create a more adherent surface. Light sanding with fine sandpaper (180 or 220 grit) is often sufficient.
- Dust carefully after sanding.
2. Application of the paste
- Mix the paste varnish if necessary so that it is homogeneous, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Apply the paste with a soft cloth, cotton wick or brush, working in small areas.
- Follow the direction of the wood fibers for uniform application and to avoid marks.
- Work methodically and do not go over the same place too many times on a still damp layer so as not to create marks.
3. Finishing and drying
- Allow to dry completely according to product instructions.
- Buff with a soft brush to remove excess and polish the surface.
- Lightly sand with fine-grit paper (180 or higher) between coats to smooth out imperfections and improve adhesion of the next coat.
- Apply several coats (often 3 to 4) for better protection, always allowing for drying between each coat.
- Do not apply sanding before the last coat if drying time between the last two coats does not exceed 3 hours.
