Description

Soft Maple Select - Rough Cut Lumber

Origin: North America

Average Weight: 30.2 to 38.0 lbs/ft³ (485 to 610 kg/m³)

Common Uses: Indoor. Furniture, crates, boxes, millwork, kitchen countertops.

Density: Janka Hardness: 700 to 950 lbf - For comparison: White Pine 420 lbf - Cherry 1,260 lbf

Comments: Don’t be misled by the name; most species of soft maple have hardness and density comparable to Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) or Black Cherry (Prunus serotina), both highly valued cabinetry woods in North America. "Soft" is a relative term used only to differentiate it from Hard Maple (Acer saccharum). For many applications, the hardness of soft maple is adequate, and its lower density generally makes it easier to work and machine than hard maple. The specific species sold under soft maple may vary depending on geography.
