Thermal modification transforms this wood into an extremely stable, durable, and rot-proof material, ideal for outdoor use.
Exceptional Stability: The process significantly reduces moisture absorption, limiting the risk of warping in deck boards.
Increased Durability: By eliminating natural sugars and resins from the wood through heat treatment, it becomes impervious to insects and highly resistant to fungi and mold.
Remarkable Aesthetics: Heat treatment gives Tauari a rich and uniform brown color, which can be maintained or evolve into an elegant silvery-grey over time.
Eco-friendly: The modification process uses only heat and steam, making it a chemical-free alternative to pressure-treated wood.
Comfort and Ease of Installation: Pleasant to the touch under bare feet, it resists heat well (it stays cooler than some other materials) and can be cut, drilled, and installed without specific tools.
Although it is an excellent material, heat treatment can make the wood slightly more brittle than untreated wood. Therefore, care should be taken during installation to avoid splitting. It is also recommended to use oil-based finishes if you wish to maintain the dark color, as water-based finishes do not yield good results.
- Installation with 2 ¼’’ #7 stainless steel screws. Pre-drill holes beforehand.
- Can be grooved for installation with hidden fasteners.
- Do not use a pressure washer for maintenance.
- For finishing, only use Cutek-type oils.
- Do not install in direct contact with the ground or a roof surface. Ensure adequate air circulation under the deck.
